  1. One search, 49 places to stand

We search “ac repair” from every point of a 7×7 grid across a 5-mile radius, and record the position at each one. Google answers differently on every street.

  2. Top 3 at 6 points

The blocks around the shop, where the van is closest and the map already agrees. This is the part of the area that rings the phone.

  3. Fourth to tenth at 17 more

Close enough that the profile decides it: the categories, the services listed, the photos. These are the cheapest points to win back.

  4. Past the top 10 at 26 of 49

More than half the service area. A customer there scrolls past the whole first screen before the listing appears, and by then they have already called someone.

  5. 3 companies rank above you

The report names them and puts their numbers next to yours: about 187 reviews against your 84, and what their own customers complain about.

  6. That gap is worth +$3,900–$6,900 a month

Searches a month, times the share of the area the fixes could move into the top 3, times the people who click a top-3 listing, times calls, booked jobs and a typical repair. Every number and its source is in the report.

02 The fix plan

Every problem comes with the steps to fix it.

Written for your listing, not for a blog post: which categories to add, which review to answer first, which directions you never show up in. For the map fixes we estimate what each one is worth and show the math, so you can check every number before you believe it.

  1. 01 Google MapsStart here

Move into the top 3 where you’re already close

You’re #4 to #10 at 17 of 49 map points, just outside the top 3 that get most of the calls.

    What to do

    1. In your Google Business Profile (search your business name on Google while signed in, then Edit profile → Business information → Business category), add the categories the top 3 use and you don’t: “HVAC contractor”, “Furnace repair service”.
    2. Under Services, list every job you do with a one-line description (for example: AC repair, AC installation, furnace repair, heat pump service, duct cleaning).
    3. Post one update a week with 2–3 photos from real jobs, and name the neighborhood in the text.
    4. Upload at least 10 new photos a month: finished jobs, your team and your vans.

    Estimate

    +$2,200–$3,900

a month in extra repair jobs, if this fix works

Google Ads would charge ≈ $1,790 a month for these clicks.

    Time it takes

About 2 hours to set up, then 15 minutes a week

    The aim

Top 3 at more of the 17 points where you’re close today. Re-check your grade after 30 days to see which moved.

    How we estimated it
    Searches a month≈ 2,400
    Extra clicks≈ 53
17% of your area moving into the top 3 × 13% who click a top-3 listing
    Calls≈ 13
25% of the extra clicks call
    Booked jobs≈ 6
    42% of calls booked
    Repair revenue+$2,200–$3,900 a month
    at $400–$700 a repair
For comparison: Google Ads price≈ $1,790 a month
    at $33.80 a click

Rounded. The exact math, with every assumption and source, is in the report.

  2. 02 Google Maps

Get found where customers can’t see you today

You’re outside the top 10, where few people look, from about 4 to 6 miles out in most directions, worst to the northeast and southeast.

    What to do

    1. Add a page to your website for each town you serve in those directions: the jobs you’ve done there, photos, and your phone number.
    2. In WordPress, add each town page under Pages → Add New Page. In the Rank Math panel on the page, click Edit Snippet and put the service and the town in the title, like “AC repair in (town)”.
    3. Link each town page from a Business Profile post (Add update, then add a Learn more button with the page’s address).
    4. Ask your next 5 customers in each town to mention the town in their review.
    5. List the same towns in your Business Profile’s service area (Edit profile → Business information → Location → Service area). It doesn’t move rankings by itself, but it tells customers you cover them.

    Estimate

    +$1,700–$3,000

a month in extra repair jobs, if this fix works

Google Ads would charge ≈ $1,390 a month for these clicks.

    Time it takes

About 1 hour per town page

    The aim

Start showing up for customers more than 4 miles from your shop, where competitors get those calls today. This builds over 2 to 3 months as the pages and reviews add up.

    How we estimated it
    Searches a month≈ 2,400
    Extra clicks≈ 41
13% of your area moving into the top 3 × 13% who click a top-3 listing
    Calls≈ 10
25% of the extra clicks call
    Booked jobs≈ 4
    42% of calls booked
    Repair revenue+$1,700–$3,000 a month
    at $400–$700 a repair
For comparison: Google Ads price≈ $1,390 a month
    at $33.80 a click

Rounded. The exact math, with every assumption and source, is in the report.

  3. 03 Reviews

Answer the 2-star review from Sep 9, then the rest

    21 of your 30 most recent reviews have no reply. The newest: Sep 9 (2★), Aug 28 (5★), Aug 14 (5★), Jul 30 (4★), Jul 11 (5★).

    What to do

    1. Reply to the 2-star review first: thank them, say what you’ve done about it, and give a direct number to call. Three sentences at most.
    2. Then work through the rest, newest first.
    3. From now on, reply within 48 hours. Turn on review notifications in the Google Business Profile app.
    Time it takes

    About 15 minutes

    The aim

Reply rate from 30% to 100% of your recent reviews. People reading them see an owner who answers.

  4. 04 Website

Let customers book online, even after hours

We found no way to book or request a visit online on your site.

    What to do

    1. Add a “Book online” button at the top of your homepage, visible on phones without scrolling.
    2. Use the booking tool you already have (Housecall Pro, Jobber, ServiceTitan) or a simple request form that texts you.
    3. Add the same booking link to your Business Profile (Edit profile → Bookings).
    Time it takes

    About 1 hour

    The aim

People who search at night or on weekends can book you instead of calling the next company in the morning.

03 What we check

Six things decide who gets the call.

Each check uses live data from Google, public reviews, your website and AI search, collected the moment you ask. A second pass verifies every finding before it reaches your report.

06 Questions

Questions about your Google Maps ranking

Plate 02 · the coreThe brightest blocks on the map. Rank is measured at every point of the area, not only here.
Why isn’t my business showing on Google Maps?

Usually it is showing, just not where customers search from. Google ranks you differently on every street, based on distance, your primary category, your reviews and your profile details. The report shows your rank across your whole service area and which of those factors hold you back.

What is a 49-point rank grid?

We search Google Maps for your main service, like “ac repair”, from 49 points in a 7 by 7 grid across a 5-mile radius around your business, and record your position at each point. It shows where customers see you and where they see your competitors instead.

How do you estimate what a fix is worth?

For map fixes, we take the monthly local searches for your main service, times the share of your service area we assume the fixes move into the top 3 (half of the points where you’re #4 to #10 and a quarter of the points beyond #10, never more than half your area), times the 13% of searchers who click a top-3 listing. For HVAC, 25% of those new clicks call, 42% of calls are booked (the industry average) and a typical repair is $400–$700, which gives the extra repair revenue. We also show what Google Ads would charge for the same clicks at your local price per click; a better listing gets them without paying per click. For trades where we don’t have a sourced repair price yet, that ad price is the estimate: free clicks worth about that much. It’s an estimate, not a promise, and the report shows every number, assumption and source. Fixes like review replies show their benefit without a dollar figure.

Do I have to talk to anyone?

No. There are no sales calls and no demos. Everything runs on this site and by email. Questions go to support@compassgrade.com and are answered by email.

Where does the data come from?

Live Google Maps and search results, public reviews, your website, AI search results, and local search volume and ad prices, all collected when you request the report.

Do I have to pay for the report?

No. The report card and the exact fix plan are yours to use, with nothing locked, no card and no trial. If the steps bring you more calls, pay whatever you think they were worth; if they don’t, you owe nothing. Paying doesn’t unlock anything. Changed your mind within 14 days? We refund it.

Do you need my Google login?

Not for the report card or the fix plan: you make the changes yourself. Autopilot can post for you if you add us as a manager on your Business Profile, and you can remove us in one click.

How is this different from an SEO agency?

You get your map and a fix plan with the exact steps before you pay anything, and then you pay only what you think it was worth. Autopilot’s price is on this page and there is no contract. You can check every result yourself on Google.
